Accelelator pedal

The accelerator pedal allows you to control the speed of the car. This pedal supplies fuel and air to the engine. This allows the power to be regulated. By depressing the pedal, the power, and therefore the speed, is increased. When you release the accelerator, power and speed are reduced.

The accelerator pedal of older cars is connected to the throttle of the carburetor or of the injection engine by a accelerator cable. Newer car models, on the other hand, use an electrical system. This electrical system works with sensors and ensures that cars drive more economically, comfortably and reliably. The electrical system works with all kinds of sensors that transmit signals and commands to the engine's computer system. Advantages of these electrical systems are the possibilities for, for example, cruise control and stability control. These applications make driving extra comfortable for the driver.

Car accelerator pedal broken

The pedal can break after an accident or due to old age. For example, the screws can become worn and loosen. The plastic of the pedal can also wear out, which means that it will have less grip under your foot. Proper operation of the accelerator pedal is of great importance for your safety and that of other road users. Of course you want to prevent that the accelerator pedal gets stuck or is no longer easy to operate. Replace a defective or worn accelerator pedal as soon as possible.

Is the accelerator pedal still in good condition but has the pedal response diminished? Then check whether the accelerator pedal position sensor is still in good condition. A changing throttle feel is often related to a defect in the position sensor.

Replace car accelerator pedal

Replacing an accelerator pedal is a simple job that you can easily do yourself. However, it can differ per car how easily you can reach the pedal. To be able to unscrew the pedal, you will first have to remove a number of panels under the dashboard. Once you have removed the panels, you can unscrew and remove the pedal. On cars that still have a throttle cable on the pedal, the throttle cable will have to be disconnected first. Also check if any sensors are still connected to the pedal before removing it. On cars with an electrical system, all you need to do is disconnect the sensors from the pedal. Once you have disconnected everything, all you need to do is screw the new pedal into place correctly. Of course, the sensors and any throttle cable must also be reconnected to the pedal.
